Clay Rice Silhouette Cutting

The SCBook Festival is pleased to feature award-winning artist and children’s book author Clay Rice on Saturday, May 16, 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. presenting his newest book The Stick. The presentation includes songs, funny stories, and lots of audience participation, so bring the kids and plan on an extremely entertaining and engaging event.


For Clay Rice, silhouette artistry and storytelling have been in his family for more than 80 years. Clay estimates that in his 32-year career, he has cut over 1,000,000 silhouettes. His work has been featured in Country Living, The Washington Times, The Atlanta Constitution, and has appeared in the CBS series Army Wives. Clay is the recipient of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award and the IPPY Award for Children’s Book of the Year. The Stick tells the story of a young boy who finds a stick on the ground. After reading the inspiring words carved into it, his life begins to change as he fulfills lifelong dreams and discovers the truth about giving.


Additionally, Clay Rice will be taking silhouette cutting portrait sessions on Saturday, May 16 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the South Carolina Book Festival. The silhouette cuttings are $42 for two copies of the same person and $10 for each additional copy. Payment for the silhouette cutting is due upon completion of the artwork on May 16. Q: Can I have all three or more of my children at the appointment? Is there a discount for more than one child?

A: Each appointment is valid for ONE silhouette portrait cutting. If you wish to have cuttings made for multiple children, you will need to make an appointment for each child. There is no discount for more than one child.

Q: Do I have to pay admission to the festival during my appointment?

A: The festival is free. Stay and enjoy the Children’s Pavilion, Exhibit Hall, and author presentations.

Q: Can I make an appointment after 3 p.m.?

A: No, due to the artist’s schedule portrait cuttings will be over promptly at 3 p.m.

Q: If I am running late, or miss my appointment, can I be worked in later?

A: We will do our best to accommodate you, however due to the popularity of this program we cannot guarantee that your appointment can be rescheduled.

Q: What is the price, and how do I pay?

A: The silhouette cuttings are $42 for two copies of the same person and $10 for each additional copy. Payment will be due after the completion of the portrait silhouette cutting. We can accept only CASH OR CHECK, so please be prepared.
