James Scott is an award-winning writer and former reporter and investigative journalist with the Charleston, South Carolina, Post and Courier. Scott’s first book, The Attack on the Liberty, was awarded the 2010 Samuel Eliot Morison Award for Excellence in Naval Literature by the Naval Order of the United States and was selected by the Navy’s preeminent policy magazine, Proceedings, as one of the best books of 2009. As a journalist, Scott reported from Afghanistan, Iraq, Buenos Aires, and tsunami-devastated Indonesia. He is a recipient of the McClatchy Company President’s Award, was named the 2003 Journalist of the Year by the South Carolina Press Association, and is a former Nieman Fellow for Journalism at Harvard University. He lives with his family in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
