McKendree R. (Mike) Long III is a former soldier with two tours as an advisor to South Vietnamese Army units. His awards and decorations include the Parachutist Badge and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He’s a member of the SCV, DCV, NRA, WWA, MWSA, SASS, VFW, and Sertoma.

He now devotes his time to his family, his writing, his guns, and travel, especially to Seabrook Island. Mike is the author of four novels and six short stories.

Book Title: Dog Soldier Moon

Higher Ground by McKendree Long is the third novel in his series, following No Good Like It Is and Dog Soldier Moon. The saga of Dobey Walls, Boss Melton, and their families continues across the post-Civil War West. A focal point of this historical fiction is the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn, seen through the eyes of survivors of an earlier Custer attack on a sleeping Cheyenne village. The series is being called The Superstition Gun Trilogy.
