Matthew Foley is a writer, spoken word artist, and an English teacher in Charleston, SC. In 2014, Matt was voted “Charleston’s Favorite Literary Artist” by the readers of Art Mag.  He is the founder of Holy City Youth Slam, a poetry organization for Charleston-area students. His first book of poetry, We Could Be Oceans, was released in January 2014. In 2015, he released a spoken word poetry album, What You Will Need in Class Today.

Book Title: We Could Be Oceans

We Could Be Oceans is the first book of poetry from Matthew Foley, a teacher and spoken word poet from Charleston, South Carolina. Many of the poems in We Could Be Oceans were born out of his experiences teaching English and Creative Writing to students from ages 12 to 18. Matthew Foley is also the host of an open mic series in Charleston and works to promote spoken word poetry in local schools.
